INTRODUCING THE SUPPORTING ORGANIZATION FOR DOGATHON: SAR
1. About SAR
SAR, or the Dog and Cat Rescue Station SAR, has become an essential support system for stray and abandoned dogs and cats. Established with the goal of creating a safe haven for forgotten or suffering pets. SAR is committed to providing them with a new life and a second chance to be loved and cared for.
Like many other animal rescue groups, SAR faces numerous challenges related to manpower and finances. The team consists of only one key member, Ms. Hen, who is currently 63 years old. She takes on many responsibilities and must manage the financial aspects to sustain SAR. Every day, she tirelessly works, from caring for the animals and cleaning to selling items and monitoring their health. She has to generate income through sales or various side jobs to ensure she can cover both her living expenses and the costs of running SAR. Despite her exhaustion, she remains unwavering in her commitment, fueled by her love for animals and her desire to provide a better life for these dogs and cats.

2. The noble mission of SAR
The primary focus of SAR is to rescue and support stray dogs and cats. The team not only rescues injured or abandoned animals but also organizes efforts to find new families willing to adopt them. This is not just about providing temporary shelter; it’s a journey to find a permanent home for these pets. As a result, hundreds of dogs and cats have found new places where they can restart their lives with the love of new owners.
On social media, the SAR Dog and Cat Rescue Station’s fan page has become a platform for continuously updating information about rescue cases, including images and the health status of the animals. It is also a space where the community can easily follow the team’s activities and learn how to help. Stories about injured, abandoned, or abused pets and their healing journeys are shared publicly so that everyone can understand the difficult and challenging work of rescue.
The posts not only call for financial support but also inspire the community, especially animal lovers, to protect and care for pets. Through this, SAR continually raises awareness about animal welfare and the importance of treating these vulnerable creatures with compassion.
In addition to sustaining SAR’s activities on her own, Ms. Hen also shares her support with other rescue stations, like Đam Khao, out of her compassion for animals.
3. SAR Rescue Numbers
Since its establishment, SAR has rescued a total of 398 dogs and 53 cats. Specifically, in 2019, the team rescued 32 dogs, and this number increased to 91 in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the team rescued 64 dogs, followed by 65 dogs in 2022, and in 2023, SAR rescued 93 dogs and 25 cats. From January to September 2024, the team has rescued 53 dogs and 6 cats. Currently, SAR has found new homes for 307 dogs and 25 cats. However, the organization is still caring for 46 dogs and 28 cats, of which 22 cats are being fostered by other families. Unfortunately, 45 dogs with severe illnesses did not survive.

4. Community: A Great Source of Motivation
The achievements that SAR has reached today are thanks to the unwavering support from the animal-loving community. Contributions from sponsors and donors, along with the love and spirit of volunteering from fellow companions, have helped the team overcome numerous challenges. Many times, due to the generosity of the community, difficult rescue cases that seemed hopeless have ended in a humane manner. None of these achievements could have been accomplished by Ms. Hen alone. She is always grateful for the support from donors, which accounts for 80 percent of the resources. In addition, her own hard work to sustain her life and the organization’s activities plays a crucial role.

5. The Future of SAR
With tireless efforts, SAR is gradually affirming its role in animal protection in Vietnam. The team hopes to continue receiving support from the community and expand its rescue activities, particularly by enhancing expertise in cat care. Additionally, SAR aims to connect with more organizations and individuals to spread the message of love and animal protection, thereby raising social awareness about the welfare of pets.
Looking to the future, even though Ms. Hên’s age is increasing, she will continue to strive to provide a new life for abandoned dogs and cats, hoping to build a united community that works together to protect these beloved four-legged friends.
